Hotels in Grantham
Situated on the site of an ancient Roman road, Grantham was also a focal point during the English Civil War, and boasts an impressive number of historic sites for a town of its size. Notably, Grantham has its fair share of remarkable alumni; Grantham's Kings School schooled none other than Isaac Newton, and the town was also the birthplace of Britain's first female prime minister, Margaret Thatcher. Ideally located within easy reach of larger urban centres, Grantham is also known as the gateway to Lincolnshire, and is a wonderfully alternative base for a taste of authentic British life.

Things to do in Grantham
St Wulfram's church in Grantham truly is a sight to behold, with its 282ft spire described by Simon Jenkins as having 'the finest Steeple in England'. The church itself is built from limestone mined in the local area and boasts an atmospheric 14th-century crypt and a chained library housed in the priest's room. Another unmissable visit is breath-taking Belvoir Castle, an important strategic fort during the English Civil War and a notable stronghold of the King's supporters. Celebrated these days for its attractive turrets and picturesque location and gardens, it also boasts some wonderfully opulent interiors. If you're a keen golfer, then head to Belton Woods to play the championship course. Its undulating fairways and water hazards make it wonderfully challenging, even for the most seasoned players.
