Location Description:
Clifford’s Tower is the keep of York’s main medieval castle. The original tower was made of wood but was burned down in 1190 at the same time as the massacre of York’s Jewish community. The tower you see today was built by Henry the third in 1245. If you’re fit enough to climb to the top of Clifford’s Tower you get a great view over York. If you don’t fancy all those steps it is still worth a look from the outside.
