D-Day Museum

Portsmouth's D-Day Museum offers local, national and international perspectives on one of the greatest events of the 20th Century - the Allied invasion of Europe on 6 June 1944, Operation Overlord. It was in and around Portsmouth that much of the planning and preparation for D-Day took place. From here tens of thousands of troops and vast quantities of equipment left for the Normandy beaches. From nearby Southwick, Supreme Commander Eisenhower gave the final, fateful decision to launch the invasion.
