We are delighted to announce that construction of our new Travelodge in Bermondsey has commenced. London Bermondsey Travelodge will be a 73-room hotel, located adjacent to the award winning Maltby Street Market (https://www.londonxlondon.com/maltby-street-market), half a mile from London Bridge Station and close to the trendy restaurants and bars on Bermondsey Street.

Featuring our new premium look and feel budget-luxe design, London Bermondsey Travelodge will also include our in-house restaurant called the Bar Café, as well as our premium economy concept SuperRooms. Due to open in 2023, this will expand our London portfolio to over 80 hotels.

Deco Design & Build is behind the development of the new hotel. Rob Copper, Development Director comments: “We are very proud to be coming out of the ground on this exciting project for Travelodge. Originally a site for a 30,000 sq. ft. office building, we took a Board decision to revise the planning to a 73-room hotel and take advantage of the long term lease security Travelodge offers. This was secured through SPPARC & DB Architects, who are familiar with Southwark Borough Council and have worked on numerous Travelodge projects in the Borough. We are on track to deliver this new hotel opening in 2023 and look forward to repeating this process with Travelodge in the future.”

The project has been part financed by Paragon Development Finance and their Relationship Director, Nigel Jackson, commented “We are delighted to support this scheme in an area of London that we know extremely well and have seen evolve and improve over the last 20 years”

John Hardy, Travelodge Development Manager for Central London, added, “This project demonstrates that a new Travelodge hotel can provide a better and higher value development solution than alternative uses, even in Central London locations. In this case, there was detailed planning permission already in place for a 30,000 sq. ft. office scheme in a SE1 postcode, but a single letting on a 25 year lease to Travelodge was a better alternative, even though this meant that a new planning permission was required.”
