Travelodge opens new hotel in Bermondsey as expansion continues in the Capital

Travelodge, the UK’s first budget hotel chain, which operates more than 600 hotels across the UK, Ireland and Spain, has officially opened London Bermondsey Travelodge – as the group continues to develop its pipeline in the Capital.

London Bermondsey Travelodge is the Company’s 82nd hotel in London, and is located amongst popular and historic attractions, including Tower Bridge and The Shard and provides a brilliant base for both business and leisure travellers visiting London. The opening of this 73-room hotel has also created 30 new jobs.

This hotel has been developed to Travelodge’s new premium design – which is the group’s most significant brand transformation to date. The new design includes a redesigned reception, and next-generation rooms.

Sustainability has been an important factor when designing the hotel. It has an Energy Performance Certificate rating of B and includes a number of sustainable features such as LED lighting throughout,  PV cells (a non-mechanical device that converts sunlight directly into electricity) on the roof, Air Source Heat Pumps and Biodiversity green roofs.

London Bermondsey Travelodge also features the group’s new restaurant concept 85 Bar Cafe, which offers an all day dining service and welcomes both hotel guests and passers-by, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner menus as well as light bites and a bar. Healthy options under 600 kcal, vegan and gluten-free dishes are all available. All of this is offered at great value, including the Unlimited Breakfast offer, where two kids under the age of fifteen eat for free.

Travelodge has over 300 target locations for hotel sites across the UK with over 100 of these target sites in London, which the chain considers to be a key area for growth and development moving forward. Travelodge currently operates 82 hotels and has properties in 31 out of the 33 London Boroughs – it is one of the capital’s largest hotel chains and employs around 4,000 people across the city.

London Bermondsey Travelodge is one of three London hotels to open for Travelodge this year, with London Oval Cricket Ground Travelodge having opened earlier this year, and London Beckenham Travelodge currently under construction to open in the next couple of months. Travelodge also has new upcoming hotels in Chiswick and Stratford under construction.

Steve Bennett, Chief Property and Development Officer, Travelodge, said: “We are delighted to announce that our 82nd London hotel has officially opened and we couldn’t be happier with the results. With its new premium design and great location, I have no doubt that London Bermondsey Travelodge will be a strong addition to the area. We have a fantastic hotel team in place, and already we are receiving excellent feedback from customers.

“The opening of this hotel marks the continuation of our expansion across the City, and we are excited for what lies ahead. We have identified more than 100 locations across London where we would like to open a new hotel and have three more hotels under construction in Beckenham, Chiswick and Stratford as we continue to expand our London estate.”

The hotel was officially opened on Friday 23 August.
