Find Where you Belong at Travelodge
Over 270 jobs are currently available at Travelodge with flexible working including Part-Time Hotel Management Positions
Travelodge, the UK’s first budget hotel, has launched a recruitment drive to fill over 270 jobs across its business. The Company, which operates over 600 hotels across the UK, Ireland and Spain, employing more than 13,000 people, is proud to be a flexible working employer, offering all of its colleagues the option to choose the hours and work that suits them.
Travelodge has always been supportive of a healthy work-life balance for its colleagues – whether that be working parents who need flexible hours that fit around the school run and holidays, students who choose to work at both their home and university locations, colleagues who simply wish to step back, as well as those looking to reach other goals alongside their working commitments.
Travelodge is fully committed to providing a flexible job structure as part of its ‘Find Where You Belong’ company initiative, which ensures inclusivity, support and flexibility for all its colleagues to be their true self at work and to belong.
The jobs available cover a wide variety of positions across Travelodge which includes full-time and part-time Hotel Manager and Assistant Manager positions, Bar Café Team Members, Housekeeping Team Members, Reception Team Members and Hotel Supervisors.
With October Half Term fast approaching, and to help gain further insight into providing flexible work for parents, Travelodge recently conducted a study asking parents of school-aged children if they would consider getting a job now that their children are back in school. Interestingly, a third of parents surveyed said they would consider applying for a job now that school has re-started.
But over a third of respondents said that they wouldn’t be looking for a role. When asked why, 44% of parents said they couldn’t commit to a job with their childcare duties, as 15% said there were not enough flexible employers in the UK, and 12% said flexible jobs that fit around school hours and holidays simply didn’t exist. However, Travelodge prides itself on providing exactly the kind of flexibility needed for parents with children in school to return to work during term time.
Lynn Johnson, part-time Hotel Manager at Canterbury Whitstable Travelodge, provides a great example of how Travelodge’s flexible work culture provides the work/life balance she needs in a job. Lynn recently scaled back on the
hours she works and loves the fact that she can continue working as a Hotel Manager, but part-time. This gives her the additional downtime she needs to spend more time with her children and grandchildren, but also ensures that she can continue to work on terms that better suit the lifestyle she now feels is right for her.
As Lynn remarks, “The hours of this job were already flexible – it meant that when my children were young, I would be able to drop them at school and also pick them up, all in a day’s work! We are very fortunate at Travelodge that if our Hotel Team Members need to start early or a member of the team is unable to do specific hours, Travelodge offers flexible working to all of its hotel Team Members.
“This is particularly beneficial for working parents, as I know first hand. As a Hotel Team Member at Travelodge you can, as well as fitting your working day around the school runs, you can change your hours during the school holidays so that you are able to spend more time at home with your children and not have to worry about the mounting financial pressures of childcare. This goes hand in hand with many of our Hotel Team Members who are students who work across our 600 hotels. They are able to switch between working at hotels that are close to their studies whilst they are at university or studying away from home, and then also work at their local Travelodge close to where they live out of term time. Hotel Team Members are also able to ‘pick up and put down’ hours to fit around their lifestyle, whether that be children, studies, a second job or life outside of work.”
Additionally, Vamshika Eslavath is a student at Greenwich University who also works part-time as a Receptionist at London Covent Garden Travelodge. Vamshika feels that not only is she able to build connections, friendships and experiences at Travelodge, but the flexibility the role offers is key while studying.
Vamshika adds, “Travelodge has an amazing working environment. It’s given me the opportunity to meet new people and build friendships but also has a flexible work pattern. Being a student, having flexibility within my role is crucial. It allows me to gain experience within the hospitality industry but also allows me to continue to focus on my studies. Dual-location working is such a beneficial package for students, knowing that I am able to work between hotels is great! It gives me job security, which any student needs and the confidence to know I can keep earning money whilst I learn. Not only that, but I’m always gaining more experience, working with new people and expanding my knowledge of the job further.”
To further support its colleagues, Travelodge’s Aspire programme allows colleagues to gain a nationally recognised qualification in hospitality which is funded through its apprenticeship levy. This comprehensive programme provides a clear pathway of development and career mapping for hotel and maintenance colleagues to progress from entry level roles through to Manager level. Aspire demonstrates Travelodge’s commitment to being a place where colleagues can get in and get on, irrespective of background or educational attainment.
Katharine Gourley, Travelodge, Director of People Operations said: “There has never been a better time than now to join Travelodge, the UK’s first budget hotel chain. In addition to its 580 hotels up and down the country, Travelodge’s aim is to ensure everyone has opportunities to learn more, earn more, and belong. The flexible working hours already available to all hotel Team Members, as well as the budget hotel chain’s new Part-Time Management initiative, really embraces the culture at Travelodge, ensuring each and every one of its 13,000 employees can do their part in making Travelodge truly a great place to work. The opportunities at Travelodge are endless and can open a door to a great career in a fast growing global industry.”
Travelodge is also a Disability Confident Committed employer, a Government-backed scheme which encourages employers to recruit and retain people with disabilities and health conditions.
