Today, Deputy Chairman of North Tyneside Council, Councillor Michael Huscroft officially opened Travelodge's fifth hotel in the city Newcastle Silverlink Travelodge. The 126-room hotel is located at Silverlink Park, Coast Road, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE28 9HP and is the first budget hotel to open in the retail business park.
Newcastle Silverlink Travelodge was previously a former struggling four-star, full service Menzies hotel which Travelodge took over this summer. Over the last couple of months Travelodge has invested £1.3 million on refurbishing the hotel and transforming it, into a budget hotel that offers rooms from £29.
To mark the opening of Travelodges fifth hotel in Newcastle, Councillor Huscroft and local businesses were invited to a champagne reception. The Deputy Mayor of North Tyneside Council, Councillor Jim Allan was unable to attend the official opening but made a special visit earlier in the day to show his support, meet the team and see the hotel.
Tom Cawdell, Newcastle Silverlink Travelodge's Hotel Manager said: "There is a desperate need for low-cost accommodation within the North Shields area. In the current economic climate, people just can't afford expensive full service hotel prices. Travellers just want a clean, low-cost room for a good night's sleep and this is what Travelodge stands for.
To celebrate the opening of Newcastle Silverlink and to help travellers to Newcastle during the credit crunch, we are offering over 700 rooms over the next three months for £29 per night.

All rooms at Silverlink Travelodge are ensuite and have a luxury king sized bed, digital flat screen TV offering 18 digital channels, WI-FI and free tea and coffee making facilities. There is onsite car parking and the hotel has a Bar Cafe offering which offers evening meals and an 'all you can eat breakfast' for £7.50 per person and under 16's eat free. If you book your breakfast online you can receive a 10% discount.
