Grant Hearn, Travelodge Chief Executive, has today commented in response to Theresa May promising to speed up UK visas for Chinese travellers:

“This is great news. We have been working very hard alongside the BHA for a change in simplifying the visa process, especially for the world’s fastest growing market in world tourism – China. We need to showcase that the UK is open for business and today’s news is definitely a step in the right direction. We will be watching closely to see what steps are taken, as failure to act will impact upon job creation, growth and investment.

“We have a real opportunity within our grasp which can play a significant part in helping our economy to recover. Every wealthy Chinese tourist lost to our European neighbours and the USA is a missed opportunity to create jobs and boost the UK economy. Therefore, it is in our national economic interest that there is a more co-ordinated approach towards tourism in government.”
