Today, the Mayor of Holyhead, Councillor Keith Roberts and local school girl, Saskia Jenkins from Thomas Ellis Primary School officially open Holyhead Travelodge. The 54-room hotel represents a £2 million investment in the town, creating 15 new jobs. Situated on Cleveland Avenue, Holyhead, Anglesey, LL65 2LB, the new Travelodge will offer rooms from £26 per night.
Holyhead Travelodge is one of the first hotels to be built with the company's new room design. Created in a contemporary style, incorporating a red, white and blue colour scheme, the new room is furnished with zebrano (dark wood) rich tone furnishings and mood-setting coloured lighting. Also included in the room is a digital flat screen TV and Wi-Fi.
To celebrate the official opening of the hotel, pupils from Thomas Ellis Primary School were set a project of drawing their "Dream Bedroom". The Mayor of Holyhead, Councillor Keith Roberts selected the winning picture at the hotel opening.
The winning pupil, Saskia was awarded a weekend stay for her family at any UK Travelodge hotel of her choice and the picture will be hung in the hotel reception area. All pupils also received a goodie bag.
Jodie Ellis, Holyhead Travelodge's Hotel Manager said: "There is a desperate need for low-cost accommodation within Holyhead and our new hotel will help to meet this demand. The Mayor of Holyhead, Councillor Keith Roberts said: "I would like to wish Holyhead Travelodge every success for the future on behalf of Holyhead Town Council. This new hotel will fill a real local need for budget accommodation and I am thrilled that it has created so many new jobs."
Anglesey County Council's Leader welcomed this latest investment in the port town. Said Cllr. Gareth Winston Roberts OBE "This is further good news for Holyhead and Anglesey. I am very pleased to see such a significant private sector investment on an urban brownfield site. We now have an important additional asset to Anglesey's tourism offer which will help to encourage more ferry users to spend time and money in the area."
The site was assembled, cleared and developed by Manchester based Premium Securities Ltd. The hotel is the 320th Travelodge opened in the UK, and forms part of a chain of hotels along the A55 in North Wales.
The derelict building clearance works which enabled the hotel development received support under the Holyhead Town Centre Regeneration Scheme, which is jointly funded by the EU Objective One programme, Welsh Assembly Government, and Anglesey County Council. Other urban improvement works under the scheme are underway between Victoria Road and Market Street.
Holyhead Travelodge will offer a choice of either family, double or disabled-access rooms. Each room provides a comfortable setting with en-suite bathroom, luxury king size bed, colour TV and free tea and coffee making facilities.
