British capital cities, London, Scotland and world heritage city Bath have been voted the top three UK cities Britons want to visit most before ‘kicking the bucket’. These findings have been revealed in a new 'UK Cities' report issued today by Travelodge.
The hotel chain surveyed 5,000 Britons to investigate their views on British cities and uncover the nation's top ten UK city 'Bucket List' list*.
Key research findings revealed Britons are traditionalists at heart - with all of the top ten cities to make the ‘Bucket List’ being renowned for their wealth of history, culture and architecture.
The nation's 'Bucket List' comprises of some of the UK’s oldest cities which date back to 1080 and even earlier which include: London, Edinburgh, York, Newcastle and Canterbury.
Also to make the list is England's world famous University cities Cambridge and the 'City of Dreaming Spires', Oxford.
The North West’s top two cities which are famous for their football, music and industrial heritage; Liverpool and Manchester also made the top ten listing.

6. Oxford

Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge Spokeswoman said: “It’s no surprise that London has topped Britons UK cities ‘Bucket List’. To date less than half of the nation at 45% has visited our capital city. In contrast, London attracts 30 million international visitors per year, making it the worlds most visited in terms of international visits. This summer, our capital is taking centre stage as the host city for two momentous occasions in the history of our country the Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympics; so there is no time like the present to get out and there and soak up the strong cultural diversity of London city and its 32 boroughs.”
Further research findings revealed that just a quarter of adults know how many cities there actually are in the UK. Nearly half of Britons thought there are 100 cities across the UK when they are only 66. Over a third of adults at 35% don’t know what is the difference between a city and town.
The report also revealed when it comes to charm, northern cities 'win hands down' Britons voted Edinburgh to be the 'friendliest' city in the UK, followed by Liverpool in second place, Newcastle in third position and Manchester in fourth place.
Birmingham, Glasgow and Cardiff were voted the top three least friendly cities across the UK.
Further research findings revealed the Edinburgh accent, made famous by Sir Sean Connery was voted the "sexiest accent" in Britain. In second place was the Essex accent which has been made famous by the popular TV programme ‘The Only Way Is Essex’. The Newcastle accent came in third place and fourth position was awarded to Liverpool and Belfast took fifth place.
Peterborough, Gloucester, Coventry and Exeter were the top four cities voted for having the least 'sexiest' accent.
