Today, local school girl, Lois Briley and the Mayor of Carlisle Councillor Elizabeth Mallinson officially opened Carlisle Central Travelodge. The 66-room hotel represents a £3.3 million investment in the town, creating 15 new jobs. Situated on Cecil Street, Carlisle, CA1 1NL in the converted telephone exchange building, the new Travelodge will offer rooms from £29 per night.

To celebrate the official opening of the hotel, pupils from Brooke Street Primary School were set a project of drawing their "dream bedroom". The Mayor of Carlisle Councillor Elizabeth Mallinson selected the winning picture, drawn by Lois Briley aged 8 years.

Lois also won a weekend stay at any UK Travelodge of her choice for her family and her picture will be hung in the hotel reception area. All pupils were also awarded a goodie bag.

Douglas Walker, Carlisle Central Travelodge's Hotel Manager said: "There is a desperate need for low cost accommodation in Carlisle and our new hotel will help to meet this demand. We sell rooms from as little as £29 per night and our location is perfect whether meeting on business or on a leisure trip with friends".

Mayor of Carlisle Councillor Elizabeth Mallinson said: "I would like to wish Carlisle Central Travelodge every success for the future on behalf of Carlisle Council. This new hotel will fill a real local need for budget accommodation and I am thrilled that it has created so many new jobs".

The hotel will offer a choice of either family, double or single rooms, each providing an en-suite bathroom, luxury king size bed, digital flat screen TV, Wi-Fi and free tea and coffee making facilities. The best deals can be found via travelodge.co.uk.
