Travelodge has written to the Speaker of the House Commons highlighting the savings that MPs could make by staying with Travelodge in London rather than in a second home.

The average cost per MP for their second home allowance is £17,693 but staying at Travelodge London Southwark Monday to Thursday nights whilst Parliament is sitting would cost a maximum of £10,065. With the Southwark hotel being only two Underground stops from Parliament, MPs would be able to come back easily and safely from late night sittings.

With a Business Account Card, MPs could secure further discounts and sensible accommodation management could cut that cost further through utilising Travelodge's numerous £9 and £19 sales. They will also be able to accumulate Argos Reward Points, allowing them to furnish their constituency homes without spending any further money

Mark Kemp, Director of Revenue at Travelodge, said:

"MPs are throwing millions of pounds away through their second home allowance. By staying at the Southwark Travelodge they could save the taxpayer at least 5 million and be only two stops from Parliament on the Underground.

"We would be more than happy to enter into an agreement with the Speaker to supply MPs a Travelodge Business Account Card and ensure that the taxpayer receives value for money."
