The Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Lisa Rutter, today officially opened the new £4.7 million, 96 room Travelodge in Cricklewood. This hotel opening marks the start of the Travelodge Olympic countdown, which will see the company open one hotel a month in London between now and July 2012. The new hotel has created 25 jobs and will bring over £1.5million per year* to the local economy.
With just nine months to go until the London Olympics, this is the first of ten hotels that Travelodge will be opening before the start of the games, which will add more than 1,000 budget hotel rooms to the capital. Rates at the London Cricklewood Travelodge will start from £19.
Located just five miles from Wembley Stadium and Arena, the new hotel is perfectly located for people attending the Olympic men’s and women’s football tournaments as well as other major sporting, music and entertainment events. With Kilburn Underground station just a short walk from the hotel, people will be able to take the Jubilee Line directly to other Olympic venues such as the O2 and the Olympic village.
The London Cricklewood Travelodge is also part of a larger, £223 million expansion programme for London’s biggest hotel chain, which will open 26 hotels in the Capital over the next 24 months. This investment will create 710 new jobs across the capital.
Phil Lupton, Travelodge district manager for North London, said: “With the Olympic Games fast approaching, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for us to promote British tourism and with millions of tourists expected to visit our capital city next summer, the need for budget accommodation will be at its peak. Cricklewood is an ideal location for us to begin our 10 hotel countdown to July 2012.”

Each room has en-suite facilities with eco-friendly showers, a flat screen TV with 18 free digital channels, free tea and coffee making facilities and Wi-Fi. Travelodge is the first UK budget hotel chain to offer its customers free Wi-Fi in its Bar Cafés across the country.
