Today Travelodge celebrates the opening of Wadebridge's first budget hotel, located on West Hill. As a result of the new hotel opening, Wadebridge is set to benefit from an estimated £689,000 tourism revenue spent in the local economy from its customers spending, on average, £36 a day in local restaurants, pubs and shops.

The new 55-bed hotel represents a £2.2m investment into the town and has created 10 jobs in Wadebridge. All of the new employees were recruited via Travelodge's partnership with the Job Centre Plus, helping the local long-term unemployed get back into work. The new hotel will offer rooms from £19 and is part of a joint development with a Marston's pub, The Falcon, which is set to open later this month.

It is anticipated that Wadebridge Travelodge will benefit from both business and leisure travellers. In particular, visitors to the Royal Cornwall Showground who will find it convenient, as well as those visiting friends and family over the forthcoming festive season.

Cornwall is a key target region for new Travelodge hotels due to its high demand for budget accommodation and strong tourism economy. As a result, Travelodge has stepped up its investment programme, opening three hotels in less than 12 months across the region. This includes the recently acquired 42-bed Bodmin Roche Travelodge on A30 Victoria, Roche and the 76-bed Newquay Travelodge on Cliff Road.

The newly appointed hotel manager, Simon Leigh, started working for Travelodge as a night receptionist four years ago at Glastonbury Travelodge. After working in several Travelodges in the region, Simon was earmarked as a rising star and was fasttracked on to Travelodge's Management Development Programme (MDP). After successfully completing his MDP, Simon was given the keys to the brand new Wadebridge Travelodge.

Simon Leigh, Wadebridge Travelodges Hotel Manager, commented: "I am really excited about opening my first hotel in Wadebridge. We have seen a high demand for low-cost accommodation within the area, which is why we have opened three sites in less than 12 months in the region. We offer rooms from £19 making it more affordable for business and leisure travellers visiting the town. My team and I are looking forward to serving the new set of customers the hotel will bring and we are excited about being an active part of the community in Wadebridge."
