Following the exchange on a joint pub and hotel site in Wincanton last week, Travelodge and Marston's have agreed to forge a new initiative to help both companies meet their joint development requirements.

Tomorrow, a joint letter from Derek Andrew, Managing Director of Marston's Inns and Taverns of Marston's and Paul Harvey, Managing Director for Development at Travelodge, will be issued to over 100 landowners and developers, letting them know that the leading hotelier and pub chain are seeking locations where they can co-locate.

The ideal development plots for the two companies are high profile, A Road sites of approximately one acre in suburban and out of town locations. These are attractive because:

Travelodge is seeking more hotels in locations ideal for business customers who are staying with the company in ever increasing numbers.

Marston's sees them as an opportunity to serve the existing residential and business community as well as visitors to the locality who may be either passing through or staying with Travelodge.

The Wincanton development is a perfect example of how co-locating can help both Travelodge and Marston's. At this development, Travelodge will be building a 57 bed hotel adjacent to a new 6,500 sq ft Marston's family pub restaurant. Both the hotel and pub will be open in 2010.

Travelodge and Marston's are confident of securing two further sites this year and are seeking to find at least ten more properties through this initiative.

Paul Harvey, Managing Director for Development at Travelodge, said:

"By colocating with Marston's we will be able to develop sites which would not have been viable for ourselves alone.

With an ever increasing number of business customers staying with us, to compliment our city centre growth we are also looking for opportunities near to out of town retail and industrial areas. Given that these also tend to be near new residential developments there is perfect synergy between our requirements and those of Marston's. By working together I am sure we will both be able to meet our development requirements."

Derek Andrew, Managing Director of Marston's Inns and Taverns, said:

"As a leading investor in new sites in the pub sector, this joint initiative will deliver a combination of excellent value pub and hotel accommodation from two of the countries best operators in the sector, giving our customers the best of both worlds at the same location."
