Things to do in Barlborough

A charming ancient village with many listed buildings to explore, Barlborough is a lovely place to spend time. Discover 1000 years of local history at the Barlborough Heritage and Resource Centre, or explore the village cross and St James the Greater church, both dating back to Norman times.

Animal attractions

Enjoy animal encounters galore at the Tropical Butterfly House in Sheffield - from the butterflies overhead, to Meerkat Mansion, to handling a bird of prey. There's also an outdoor adventure play area and an indoor activity centre, so there's plenty to keep you entertained, whatever the weather. Explore the beautiful Derbyshire countryside on horseback at Derbyshire Pony Trekking; look out for buzzards and herons flying overhead while trekking around the nature reserve. Spend the day at Aston Springs Farm, getting up close to a wide array of farm animals, followed by some great arts and crafts for kids and adults alike.

The great outdoors

Visit Creswell Crags, an ancient limestone gorge and home to Britain's only known Ice Age rock art. Spend a day at Rother Valley Country, 750 acres of open water, grassland and woodland, providing a haven for wildlife as well as a centre for water sports and other outdoor pursuits.
