The financial district of London, commonly called “The City” was a Roman trading post. Fast forward to the 21st century and it’s now it’s the most affluent district in the world. It has got a lot of history, and the architecture is stunning. Please take note of Norman Foster’s Gherkin, Christopher Wren’s St. Paul’s Cathedral and finally John Soane’s Bank of England. From our hotels in the City of London, you can walk to anything and everything you’ve seen on a post card including the Tower of London, Globe Theatre and Tate Modern.
Book hotels in the City of London
Book one of our hotels in the City of London and take an architectural tour to get your bearings. Pass the pickle-shaped building and marvel, but keep moving. Next, St Paul’s Cathedral, the second largest building (and the highest dome) in the UK. For one of the most Instagrammed moments in London, take a selfie on Millennium Bridge with the cathedral in the background. Next, cross the bridge and see the latest art exhibit at the Tate Modern. Our London Central Southwark Hotel is a 10-15 minute walk from all three attractions. If you’re with the kids, you’re off to the Tower of London. Must-see Moment: The Crown Jewels. Take time for the kids to wield swords or bows/arrows. It’s just a 0.3 mile walk to our London Central Tower Bridge Hotel.
Things to do in the City of London
Now, let’s travel back to 1638. King Charles is hungry. He wants food to be fresh so he gives a licence to sell it in a rural area which is now called Old Spitalfields Market centuries later. The market stalls, food trucks and surrounding restaurants keep it buzzing year-round. Now let’s time-travel to the 1500’s. City bakers kept their pigs on Hogs Lane outside the city walls but then in 1608, it became a market for second-hand clothes called Petticoat Lane Market. The clothes market still stands today. Both are just a half-mile walk from our London Central Liverpool Street Hotel.
